Wooden Storage Shed Plans

By Anthony Woods

If storage is becoming a problem with the hardly enough room to fit the car in the garage and every drawer and cupboard in the house fit to burst, then perhaps it's time to start thinking about creating some storage space. A wooden storage shed is an ideal solution and with a decent set of plans it's an ideal DIY project for the summer.

Your first purchase should be a good set of wooden storage shed plans; these are easy enough to find online. These sets o f plans will have many different designs for you to choose from though the required floor space will affect your choice somewhat.

Having decided on the type of storage shed that you would like to build and also the site you will need to find out if planning permission is needed, building codes can vary from area to area so its better to check than to go ahead and build only to be told to take it down again.

Knowing where you intend to build along with the information on your storage shed plans should be enough to satisfy most planning officials. If applicable you may need to consult with your local tenants association.

Assuming no problems with the above then you can order your materials from your local supplier; your plans should have a breakdown of all wood lengths, fittings and fixtures. Some timber merchants will cut some or all of your wood to size.

While waiting for your materials to arrive you can prepare the base or foundation. A firm and level base will add years to the life of your shed and allow the smooth operation of doors and windows.

You have a choice when it comes down to choosing your foundation between pier and beam, concrete slab, and treated timber runners. I once used concrete fence posts from the local demolition yard and they work quite well as long as you remember to take into account any tapering.

Using your wooden shed storage plans you can now begin your build by working your way through the set stages.

Protect your garden sheds in 2010

NEIGHBOURHOOD police officers have been out and about with a mobile high-security shed to raise awareness of thefts from sheds and outbuildings.

PCSO Dan Arthur took a shed along to Wincanton Garden Centre to give customers an opportunity to discuss shed security.

As well as seeing how various security devices worked there was an opportunity for people to ask questions about crime prevention.

PCSO Arthur said: “The dark evenings make it easier for people to break into sheds without being seen so shed security is important.

“This is just one of several initiatives the beat team are involved in to help our residents protect themselves from crime. The event was well received by the public and we spoke to many people throughout the course of the day.”

The mobile shed will be back on the road again soon visiting various parts of the district in the ‘Sheducation tour.’ If you could benefit from crime prevention advice call Avon and Somerset Police on 0845-4567000 or visit our website www.avonandsomerset.police.uk which can be accessed via the link on this page.
